We want our kids to see that the Old Testament points to Christ. In her marvelous Jesus Moments series, Alison Mitchell helps children seek-and-find the Old Testament connection to Jesus in fun ways they'll be sure to remember!

What a clever series! By using symbols that children must find and explore, these books draw out significant links between Old Testament characters and Jesus. Perfect for parents and teachers who want to help their children understand God’s Big Story.

Jesus showed his followers in all the Old Testament “the things concerning himself” (Luke 24:27). The Old Testament comes into clear focus when we begin to see these wonderful things. Alison Mitchell draws children into this rich true way of reading the Old Testament. The books are fresh, lively, attractive, intriguing, and thought-provoking. Warmly recommended.

“Cleverly done!”

Our children have enjoyed this one. My eldest (age 7) regularly can be found reading it to himself and my middle child (age 4) enjoys spotting the Jesus moments!

I love the idea behind this series - helping our children see how the whole Bible points us to Christ, and this one is cleverly done.

“Unique Bible Story Retelling”

This unique Old Testament storybook shares snapshots from Moses's life. At the beginning of the book, the author explains that if you look closely, you can see parallels to Jesus in different Old Testament stories. She encourages kids to look for hidden bulrushes in illustrations, because these each signal a "Jesus moment." This seek-and-find detail appears on four pages, and the target audience of elementary-aged kids will enjoy this added element.

Throughout this book, Allison Mitchell describes some of Moses's experiences leading the Israelites through the wilderness. Because so many books about Moses start with his birth and end with the Exodus, it's nice that this book takes a different approach, covering other elements from his life. This book also deals with some hard moments related to sin, with the creation of the golden calf and the story of the bronze snake. The book shares a clear message about how God forgives and rescues His people, and pages at the end make connections between aspects of Moses's story and the story of Jesus.

This is the second book in a new series that teaches kids about how Old Testament stories point to Jesus. In some ways, I thought that this was better than the first book in the series, and in other ways, I felt that it fell short. The seek-and-find element is less effective in this book, since the bulrushes blend in as part of the natural scenery, while the crowns in the book about David could appear in more creative ways throughout that book. This book has higher-contrast illustrations than the first, but there are still some more monochrome pages that won't show up as well in a group read-aloud context. Overall, I think that this is a good book, and I would recommend it to Christian families and churches who are looking for a dynamic, gospel-centered book that covers less acknowledged aspects of Moses's story.

“Solid truth made digestible for littles”

I love this book and how it shows kids how God has always had a plan and how he left us evidence us it all through His word. Plus the hidden symbols make the book feel like a treasure hunt for kids!

“Our Great Rescuer!”

If you look carefully, you can spot “Jesus moments,” throughout the Old Testament. “These are moments when someone or something in the story is a little bit like Jesus.” The beginning of the book instructs kids to keep an eye out for hidden bulrushes, because when you see one, then you know you’ve spotted a Jesus moment.

This is the second book in the Jesus Moments series, and there are some things I really enjoyed about this one, even more so than the first. The story starts after the Israelites have crossed the Red Sea, and deals with their 40 years in the wilderness. We hear their grumbling, see them worship a calf, experience their fear as Moses’ face shone brightly, and learn about the bronze snake on a pole. Children’s stories don’t usually deal with these parts of Moses’ story. Very often they end at the Red Sea, leaving children to believe the Israelites immediately entered the Promised Land. There are some hard parts in this story that deal with sin, and I appreciate that this book explored those moments, while showing that there were still Jesus moments amidst the grumbling. God was always protecting them; He was always rescuing them. Kids will learn about the character of God, revealing Him to be merciful and forgiving, as well as a promise keeper. Our Great Rescuer! We must love and obey God and turn away from sin and towards the cross.

“We Love the Jesus Moments Books!”

Our family is loving the Jesus Moments collection of books, and this new addition - Moses - is fantastic!

It’s a fun, interactive book that kept my daughter (age 6) engaged, by visually searching for special bulrushes images as we read to her. Each bulrush marked a “Jesus Moment” in the story. About two thirds of the way through the book, the book asks children if they spotted each of the Jesus Moments, explaining that certain things in the story of Moses and the Israelites time in the wilderness compared to a moment of Jesus’ life on Earth. Each of the moments are then explained in simple terminology and points readers to the salvation message, making this a valuable resource in our home. We loved that it seamlessly and simply tied both the Old and New Testaments together in an entertaining way that was easy for young children to grasp.

This book covers God’s provision of everything we need, how He rescues us and His deep, unfathomable love for us despite our sinning, time and again.

With vibrant, expressive illustrations, this book offers thick, durable pages and a solid hardcover. It comes highly recommended from our family to yours as an interactive book that would be great for any child’s library, but also for children’s ministry programs, in homeschool, or a private school.

* I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts are my own and I was not required to write a positive review.

“Bible study trainer!”

This is a unique series and I’m glad to see more books are being added to it! What an important skill for kids to be able to have at a young age: to see how every page of Scripture points ahead to Jesus Christ. This series allows kids to be exposed to, understand, and exercise that Bible study skill within the pages of a beautifully illustrated and engaging picture book.

Kids will often hear of these “heroes” of the Bible, but how much better if they understand the True Hero of the Bible that all those stories are meant to point to! As our family has read this book, we have had the opportunity to discuss many questions about both the Israelites and Jesus. I highly recommend this book, especially for elementary aged boys!

“Such a special story about Mosea”

Though this book does have great pictures and tells the story of Moses without leaving out anything, what makes this book special are the Jesus moments. I love how this book finds moments in Moses's story that is similar to Jesus in the New Testament.

“love it!”

The Good Book Company has been doing a great job of coming out with amazing children's books that display the glory and goodness of God on a level that kids of all ages can comprehend. Moses is another great option for young kids to see the work of Jesus in the Old Testament.

Mitchell begins the book by reminding the reader that Jesus Moments are all through the Bible, even in the Old Testament, long before Jesus arrived on earth. She proceeds to lay out the many events of Moses' life including the Red Sea, grumbling in the desert, God's provision of manna and the Ten Commandments, the golden calf, the golden snake, and more.

The story then moves towards reviewing the specific Jesus Moments and how we can praise Jesus for His glorious displays.

Mitchell concludes the book with a great section discussing why it's important to look for Jesus moments. Not just in this story, but throughout the entire bible when reading alone or with friends or family.

The illustrations are beautiful and captivating. They do a wonderful job at capturing the details and wonder of each Jesus moment.

This is another great option for young kids to learn more about Jesus and His work throughout History.

“Engaging & meaningful!”

This book is SO COOL! As it goes through the story of Moses, your kids get to chance to spot “hidden bulrushes” which signify something in the story that points to Jesus, what the books calls “Jesus moments.”

At the end of the book, it then leads you through where the bulrushes were and how each of those parts of the story have their fulfillment in the New Testament. AMAZING!

I loved the illustrations in this book, my kids loved following along and trying to find clues on the pages, and I LOVED the messages in this one and how everything we read in the Old Testament pointed to our coming Savior.
