Part of a series of other Bible story books, this book introduces littles to the story of Joseph through brightly illustrated pages. It is quick and simply written. These books are interactive and try to get the children engaging with the story. Joseph and the Very Strange Dreams has children listening for the opposites mentioned throughout the story. I also love how it emphasizes God's Soverign work even in the midst of evil and that we can trust Him. I have loved these books in this series for introducing littles to these Bible stories and am so excited to get to add this one to our collection!
Thank you @thegoodbookcompanyusa for a copy of this book for my honest thoughts!
This vibrantly illustrated picture book captures the heart of Joseph’s story for small children and enables them to begin to understand the richness of the Bible.
This series is a favorite in our home and this new addition is just as fun as the rest. The book follows the biblical account of Joseph in a straightforward and easy to understand way. My littles (ages 1, 4 and 5) love the bright illustrations too.
As a mom I love that this book focuses on opposite words. We’ve been working on things like opposites and what words rhyme. Having a fun, engaging, truth filled book is a win for the entire family!
Colorful and so descriptive story of Jospeh. Part of the Very Best Bible Story Series! No need to doubt- God has a plan! Love this series! Cannot get a better series!
My little guy loved reading this by himself- he's in 3rd. Also love the free resources!
This series has been a joy for our kids! The Very Best Bible Stories series includes biblical accounts of Moses, Joshua, Easter, Christmas, Esther, Noah, David, Jonah and more.
Tim now shares the account of Joseph and his brothers. He stays true to the Word as he retells the brokenness and beauty of Joseph's journey. It's simple for little ears to understand and grasp.
The illustrations, as with all the others in the series, are delightful, beautiful and fun. The best part is the "toddler" version of each character in the story. I think this is wonderful and makes it more relatable to little kids.
I do wish Thornborough would have included the Scripture reference and possibly a Q&A for parents and kids to have further discussion around the story.
Ultimately, it's a very interactive story and any child would enjoy reading it.
I received a copy of this book from The Good Book Company for an honest review.
We loved this fresh take on a very well-known story. The different perspective and the focus on the dream were really well done.
In our home, we have a rule to avoid using the word “hated”, especially for young children. This word appears within the first few pages to describe how others felt toward Joseph, and we would prefer softer language for developing vocabularies.
The story also felt slightly longer than necessary. A quicker pace and fewer hard details might have helped maintain engagement for younger readers.
Still, this is a great addition to the series by Tim Thornborough and Jennifer Davison.
Using opposites as the frame of the story, this book really gets kids interested in the story of Joseph and how God used him for good. My son was engaged, and that makes me so pleased as a toddler mom to have my son engaged in a Bible story from beginning to end.
Looking to read engaging, colorful and bright Bible stories to your toddlers that are written at their level? Look no further. Tim Thornborough's newest book in his Very Best Bible Stories Series is called Joseph and the Very Strange Dreams. It's produced by The Good Book Company.
As I said, this book is geared for little people with it's strong and sturdy hardback cover, this book will take a beating. The colors are so nice and interesting. Jennifer Davison did the illustrations and once again she has created such cute little people. I love their faces and they have such cute little chubby, stubby legs.
The book is based on the true story of Joseph that can be found in the book of Genesis in your Bible. This is a great way to begin to teach your little ones about the real people of the Bible.
Mr. Thornborough did a fantastic job of reminding readers that God has a plan and He's working it out. We don't need to doubt what is going on around us.
I would highly recommend this book to any Christian family wanting to read Bible stories to their young children. This would also be great for a homeschooling family with a beginning reader. There's not a ton of words on the page, and the words are not that difficult.
Also, this book would be great in a church nursery or toddler Sunday school classroom.
This picture book retells the biblical story of Joseph in a kid-friendly way. Tim Thornborough simplified the plot for a very young audience while remaining faithful to the source material, and the book has lots of short sentences and simple vocabulary. The colorful illustrations from Jennifer Davison are eye-catching and full of energy, and will catch children's attention. Because the illustrations are so vivid and high-contrast, this will work well in contexts like a church classroom, where a teacher is holding this up for a group of kids to see.
The text has a consistent rhythm that is easy to read aloud with expression, and the book moves through the story of Joseph quickly, using opposites as a storytelling device to highlight the many different contrasts that occur within this story. The way that the author emphasizes opposites feels very natural within the story, and it adds an additional educational element while also tying in with the spiritual message. The book teaches that even when we face very hard things, God has a plan and is at work in the midst of our difficult circumstances.
"Joseph and the Very Strange Dreams" will appeal to fans of this series, and to people looking for basic Bible story books for toddlers and preschoolers. I appreciate that even though this retelling is short and simple, it clearly conveys the major plot points of Joseph's story, along with its core themes. The bright and colorful illustrations elevate the book even further, and I highly recommend this.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher, and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
As a church and as a family, we love this series written by Tim Thornborough. Each story has an exciting but simple narrative, with vocabulary accessible for young children and some really stunning illustrations. We use these to teach our youngest children some big Bible stories, while making sure the main teaching point (and how it points to Jesus) is really clear. This is a great gift, and works well for being part of the church's children's book library too!
