Are you feeling awesome?

Welcome to March 10th: international day of awesomeness.

I kid you not ... a bunch of laugh-loving people are inviting you and I to spend today displaying awesome acts. Their strapline: no-one's perfect but everyone can be awesome! The ideas are diverse but, at their heart, quite simple - validate someone else's awesomeness, affirm your own awesomeness - then do something awesome (be that having an amazing meal or doing something profoundly life-fulfilling) and blog about it. The primary aim is to have fun. Lots of it!

On balance, I don't think I'm going to be engaging with this day of awesomeness in any specific way but it did get me musing on the journey to work today ... As Christians:

• Do we recognise true awesomeness when we see it? The holy one of Isaiah 6 should induce just that kind of response. Do we need to spend more of our time with God, looking at his nature and simply saying, "wow"?
• Do we happily stand against culture's drive for inappropriately high self-esteem and accept that we, in and of ourselves, are not awesome. And in that knowledge, do we humbly run to the awesome love and forgiveness that Christ has to offer - the place where real self-image and purpose is found?
• Do we recognise just how much awesomeness is going on around us? Each time someone comes to Christ, there's a miracle of epic proportions taking place. A move from death to life that is only possible through the work of Jesus.
• Do we revel in the part we have to play in Jesus' awesome mission? The privilege of prayer, the wonder of mission - it's not meant to be a burden but a lifestyle that brings joy to our hearts.
• Do we look forward to that day when all will be truly awesome because there is no more sin, no more death, no more war (go on ... read the end of Revelation again today!)

It's up to you if you go out for a mind-blowing taste sensation in a local restaurant this evening ... Personally, I will be at a child protection training evening. But whatever you do, let your mind wander today and spend some time contemplating the true awesomeness that is God the Father, Son and Spirit.
