It’s worth reading from start to finish—and not just because of the gory details. The story told in 1 and 2 Samuel is a story that explores what kind of king we really need, and what it looks like to serve him. And so it ultimately leads us to Jesus.
The Songs of a Warrior is a faithful, imaginative retelling of this epic narrative, starting with the people’s request for a king in 1 Samuel 8 and going all the way to God’s promise of Jesus in 2 Samuel 7. Aimed at 8-13s, it includes notes for every chapter as well as discussion questions and a Bible-reading plan, all designed to help young readers to explore the twists and turns of the biblical narrative and think about what it means for them.
