Ministry Trainees - meet the children's worker

I decided to do a ministry training scheme because I wanted to be able to do good children’s work. With a full time job and limited children’s workers in my church I felt like I didn’t have enough time, knowledge or experience to help out in church as much as I wanted to.

Now I’m a ministry trainee I’m involved in Sunday school, an after school club, toddler groups as well as being able to see and get involved in other ministries such as one-to-one work and small groups. I’m getting a lot out of my training: I get to meet wonderful people. I am able to spend the time I want and need in God’s Word to make me better equipped to do children’s work. I am getting the chance to see real life ministry daily; the ups and downs, the hard effort and also the joy that comes with it. 9:38 has been very useful.

I didn’t know if I wanted to do full time ministry or what ministry work involved before my training. It provided a church where I could come and learn, experience and get involved in ministry work with good support from other church workers. The 9:38 conference was also a good place to chat to people across the country about different churches and how ministry can look. The future... is in Gods hands!

I hope to be a full time childrens worker in the foreseeable future. I may do more studying or some part-time study before or during that. But I’ve realised that I enjoy teaching children the truths of God’s Word and feel equipped to go out and get stuck in.

If you are student and thinking about the possibility of applying for a local church ministry training scheme - this conference may be for you... Alternatively you might like to read Workers for the Harvest Field.
