Fighting the Monday Feeling

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
(1 Thessalonians 5 v 16-18)

Fighting the Monday Feeling

As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
You will go out in joy
and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills
will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field
will clap their hands.

(Isaiah 55 v 10-12)

Like rain, God’s word comes from Him and transforms things. His word is His chosen way of achieving His purposes. So His word to the world to “come to him” will be heard. And for those who respond, the future looks bright — a new world, with God’s curse gone. And a people from all over the globe, with Jesus leading them.

Your name, O LORD, endures forever,
your renown, O LORD, through all generations.
For the LORD will vindicate his people
and have compassion on his servants.
(Psalm 135 v 13-14)

Fighting the Monday Feeling

Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

(Isaiah 40 v 28-31)

The Lord is the one who creates, sustains, controls and directs His world for His purposes. And He’s promised to restore and renew His people. Who can compare to Him?

You who bring good tidings to Zion,
go up on a high mountain.
You who bring good tidings to Jerusalem,
lift up your voice with a shout,
lift it up, do not be afraid;
say to the towns of Judah,
“Here is your God!”
See, the Sovereign LORD comes with power,
and his arm rules for him.
See, his reward is with him,
and his recompense accompanies him.
He tends his flock like a shepherd:
He gathers the lambs in his arms
and carries them close to his heart;
he gently leads those that have young.

(Isaiah 40 v 9–11)

The good news must be shouted out! The Lord Jesus will come with the power of a mighty warrior and with the care of a shepherd looking after his sheep. Just as God would rescue the people of Jerusalem from exile in foreign countries — Jesus rescues His people from God’s punishment and brings them home to Himself. Amazing.

Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion,
which cannot be shaken but endures forever.
As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
so the LORD surrounds his people
both now and forevermore.

(Psalm 125 v 1–2)

"You turned my wailing into dancing;
you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing to you and not be silent.
O LORD my God, I will give you thanks forever."

"This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins."

May my lips overflow with praise,
for you teach me your decrees.
May my tongue sing of your word,
for all your commands are righteous.

(Psalm 119 v 171-172)
