Frantic Friday?

Who are your heroes in life—the examples you follow and the models you look up to? Hebrews chapter 3 is all about faithfulness. It begins with a positive example to follow in v 1-6.

Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest. 2 He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house.3 Jesus has been found worthy of greater honour than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honour than the house itself. 4 For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. 5 ‘Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house,’ bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future. 6 But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory. Hebrews 3 v 1-6

  • On whom are we to fix our thoughts (v 1)?
  • What quality of his in particular are we to be inspired by (v 2, 6)?

Some people see Jesus as nothing more than an example to follow. He’s much more than that. He’s the apostle, sent into the world to rescue us. He’s the high priest, the only mediator between us and God. But he is also our example to inspire us.

  • Do you look to Jesus as your model and inspiration for being faithful to God?
  • Practically, how can you fix your thoughts on him more? What other wonderful privileges do we as Christians enjoy (v 1)?
  • What do we need to do if we are going to keep enjoying these privileges (v 6)? What is the warning implied by this?
  • How does this challenge the Christian who says: “I’m fine. God’s love for me is unconditional”?

Sometimes we find it a real struggle to be faithful to God—resisting temptation, pursuing godliness, keeping serving and enduring opposition.

  • In what ways are you finding it hardest at the moment?
  • How could the example of Jesus help you?
