“Wonderful re-telling of the prodigal son story for young ones”

The Dad Who Never Gave Up by Steph Williams is a wonderful retelling of the prodigal son story.

The Dad Who Never Gave Up is told in such a good way that young children today can clearly understand the story. I like that the back of the book has a short section to help grown-ups to help the children better understand the story. I also like that the complete text from the New International Version of the story from Luke is included at the end of the book so you can read the original Bible story and talk about it all together. This book is about 6 1/2 inches square and is paperback so would make a great Sunday School gift from the teacher and it would also be great to put in the book bag to read away from home.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions within this review are my own.

“An engaging re-telling of the Prodigal Son for 2-4s!”

Another new read from the Little Me, Big God series! These short tales for kids are engaging (excellent emotion-filled illustrations) and make their point quickly and effectively.

In this retelling of the Prodigal Son, the younger brother requests his inheritance and "used it all up buying nice things for himself". Soon he finds himself so hungry, he's willing to eat pigs' food!
Then, he remembers his dad. He doesn't expect to be welcomed back as a son...But maybe he can find work? He was wrong. The illustration communicates the father’s joy as he runs toward his son so quickly that his sandal flies off his foot.

The book also addresses the self-righteous older brother, "God forgives and helps anyone who trusts in Him. It's not because we're so good, it's because God's love is so big!" We see the brother pouting off to the side, showing his bitterness as his brother’s return is celebrated.

The bite-size stories in the Little Me Big God series are just right for the 2-4 age. This story begins with, “A story Jesus told” and Scripture and notes for grown-ups are included in the back.

Thanks to The Good Book Company for gifting me a copy for review!

“Simple and Delightful... Want to collect them all!”

The simple, delightful retelling of the prodigal son is a great way to immerse even the youngest preschooler in Biblical stories! My three year old loves the 7x7 inch paperback format of these books and the bright, colorful covers! The stories are easy to understand, express biblical truth and remind children that God is always happy to accept them, no matter their previous choices, and reminds them just how big His love is. The illustrations reminded me of a comic strip or cartoon and are cute, expressive and fun. While I understand this series to be geared towards younger children, I don’t see why any elementary-aged child, especially those who aren’t familiar with Bible stories already, wouldn’t love these books, too!

At the end of each book is a note for grown-ups that reviews the wisdom found in the Scripture with suggestions for sharing the story on a deeper level. In addition, there is an NIV version of the Bible story from Scripture.

A great tool for introducing Bible stories and faith on a level children can grasp! Plus, the stories to this series will be fun to collect!

* I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and all thoughts are my own.

“wonderful”

This is a picture book retelling the story of the prodigal son. It is part of the Little me Big God series from The Good Book Company.

Williams does a wonderful job retelling the story of the prodigal son, his brother and his father in a shortened, easy to understand version for young kids. The story touches on all three characters and the lessons we can learn from each.

The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and extremely engaging for young eyes. This book is definitely for younger children around the ages of 3-6. It may be too simple for children older than that and thus lose interest in the story.

Williams includes two sections at the end of the book:

- Notes for Grown Ups: this includes background and cultural details for parents to bring into the story

- NIV Scripture Reference: a write up of the actual scripture reference for the story

This is a wonderful book to have for young children to introduce them to an important story of the Bible.

I received a copy of this book from The Good Book Company in exchange for an honest review.

“Accurate retelling of Jesus' parable”

The Bible story is based on Jesus' parable of the Prodigal Son found in Luke 15:11-32.

The book is accurate in sharing the Bible's information, and the moral of the story is clear, too.

Children will understand that God loves them no matter what bad things they do.

I would highly recommend this book, "The Dad Who Never Gave Up". It is perfect for introducing young children to Jesus' parables and stories from the Bible. This would be a great addition to any home library, church nursery, or preschool classroom.

I appreciate that Ms. Williams has the Bible text printed at the back of the book for easy reference (NIV) and that there is a note to adults about the moral of the story and sharing this with children.
A big thank you to The Good Book Company for this complimentary product. This is my honest review.

“Truthful and beautiful”

Having read frustrating versions of this story for children, I'm so pleased this has been made. The focus on the father's heart for his sons is really helpful. The pictures are wonderful. What a joy.
